GYRI REIERSEN | Tanso
Our first speaker, Gyri is a climate activist, co-founder, and CTO of the ClimateTech startup Tanso. Driven by the urgency and importance of mitigating climate change, Tanso is a company that aims to remove the structural barriers that hinder corporations to reach climate neutrality. We leverage the power of data and machine learning to help industrial manufacturing companies transition towards a lower carbon economy. We are a product-driven company using state-of-the-art technology and scientific research to tackle climate change the right way. Doing so by making sustainability accounting as integrated, transparent, and verifiable as financial accounting.
Passionate about leveraging tech and innovation to solve society’s largest issues, she recently worked on research together with TUM, ETH Zurich, and MIT using machine learning to estimate carbon storage in reforestation projects through satellite and drone imagery.
As an active member of the Global Shapers, an initiative for young leaders, and other organizations, she has launched multiple initiatives to empower founders to tackle climate change, increase diversity in tech, and break the stigma around mental health.
BJÖRN STOFFERS | OroraTech
Our second speaker, Björn is CCO & Co-founder of OroraTech, also an economist and communications expert with a passion for game theory, space tech and sustainability. Prior to founding OroraTech, he supported other founders in a startup accelerator, worked as a communications trainer and consultant and in PR & marketing as an active member of Mensa.
OroraTech is a NewSpace start-up headquartered in Munich, Germany, that provides a global satellite-based wildfire intelligence service by processing data from various available satellite sources. In parallel, the company is developing its own nanosatellite constellation specialized in wildfire detection, with the first satellite successfully launching in January 2022. Today, OroraTech is serving clients in forestry, public sector, NGOs and insurers around the world helping to mitigate economic and environmental damages of wildfires.
Founded in 2018 by Thomas Grübler, Björn Stoffers, Florian Mauracher, and Rupert Amann as a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the company has grown to an international team of over 60 employees. OroraTech has been supported by research grants from the Bavarian and German government, the European Space Agency and the European Commission, and graduated accelerator programs at Google, Samsung, Plug&Play, ESA BIC, and the German Accelerator Silicon Valley.
